Coro New York Leadership Center

Since 1947, Coro Fellows in Public Affairs have learned about the real world in the real world. Rated by The Princeton Review as one of the best public affairs internship programs in the country, the Coro Fellows Program is a nine-month, full-time, graduate-level leadership training program that introduces individuals to all aspects of the public affairs arena.

Sixty-eight Fellows are chosen annually each year through a highly competitive selection process. They represent a broad range of cultural, racial and economic backgrounds, ages, interests, and academic and work experience, but all are committed to excellence in public affairs. The Fellows Program in Public Affairs is conducted in Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and St. Louis.

The Coro Fellows Program is the most long-standing and well known of the Coro programs. It is an intensive nine-month, full-time, graduate-level program. Unconventional by traditional academic standards, the program is rigorous and demanding, and is an unparalleled opportunity for personal and professional growth. Each year, after a rigorous national selection process, sixty-four Coro Fellows are chosen from across the country to serve as Coro Fellows at one of the following Coro Centers: Los Angeles, New York, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and St. Louis. As a Coro graduate, you will be able to:

v Analyze the resources, needs and goals of different institutions and organizations.

v Communicate effectively with members of diverse communities.

v Build consensus among individuals with differing viewpoints and agendas.

v Understand the dynamics of working with groups and individuals.

v Design, undertake and evaluate projects.

v Promote effective decision-making.

v Build and maintain a career network.

The vantage point of the Coro experience cannot be overestimated. In the program, you will learn to see the big picture - the community as a whole - and appreciate the varying perspectives that characterize our cities, states and nation. Now, in the 21st century, it is clear that the long-term vitality of our democracy is more reliant than ever on leaders who can skillfully bridge the competing concerns of an increasingly diverse constituency in a world of constant change, varying resources and increased globalization. Coro graduates are these leaders.

If you want to make a difference in your community, organization or industry, and have an interest in civic affairs, then Coro can help you develop marketable skills for effective leadership.
